Intel...I'll Say! GOOOAAAALLLL

Yes, I know.  I'm terrible.  I apologize.  I'm back!

I just came across this AMAZING piece of news.  Soccer is a HUGE sport (especially outside of the United States).  Intel is one of many sponsors of the game, and FC Barcelona just got stamped...

Intel has moved their logo from the myriad of others on the team's jersey to the inside.  Get this, the 5-year $25 million deal was inked with this concept in mind: Intel will stand alone during the best part of any soccer game, the GOOOOOOAAAAALLLL!  The Intel logo will only be seen when/if players lift their shirts above their heads, which happens....

So.  Dang. Smart.

GoDaddy: Kickin' Like Van Damme!

As a marketing student, I try to look at all angles.  Marketing a product everyone should use, but is hard to communicate is a difficult task.  I ask myself, "what if that were my client?" Would I turn it down or accept the challenge?

Deutsch of New York did an AMAZING job at re-calibrating the GoDaddy marketing model.  GoDaddy.com's Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer, Barb Rechterman, had this to say about going with Deutsch:

"We decided we wanted a fresh look at it. Deutsch understood our brand. They understood we needed to pay homage to the past, and we needed to shift more about we do."

I previously had NO IDEA (shame on me) that A WOMAN signed off on so many sexually charged ads.  Kudos to Deutsch and GoDaddy for making a change when needed and creating a hilarious new campaign, "It's Go Time."  Check it out below:

Hahaaaaaaaaaaaa!  So funny!

Verizon = Venturesome, and I like it.

Verizon Wireless recently pounded their chest with their "Reality Check" spot by McCann Erikson.  Well, can you hear them now?

The point is proven and the delivery is clever. I have Verizon so some cool points were allotted.

Only 'issue'...I could totally tell it was the United States map, could you?

Volkswagen: Das Advertising

By now you should know, I love funny.  Deutsch of Los Angeles developed a terrific ad with the perfect homage to my favorite decade, the 80s, for Volkswagen.

Check it out:

I 'ugly-laughed' at the end.  This is one of those commercials that is an experience, you're drawn in, told a story, and WHAT AN ENDING!
*sigh, that was great!

Panera: Live Consciously, Advertise Brilliantly

Just, WOW!  Cramer-Krasselt (agency) and 1stAveMachine (production company) teamed up and put together an AMAZING ad.  While using the Rube Goldberg concept has been done before in commercials, it's been awhile since it's been seen and done SO WELL!

Check out the (extended) ad they created for Panera Bread:

K Mart: Back To School w/ Yo Mama Jokes

In recent news, the rap group Da Rich Kidzz, starred in a national Back To School campaign for K Mart.  In the spots, created by Draftfcb, the group is seen rapping about the newest fashions their moms found at K Mart, and because they're so fresh, the school bus...it's now a limo.  Don't hate.

Da Rich Kidzz claim to fame is their hit song, "Hot Cheetos & Takis."

Check out two of the ads for KMart:

But THIS ad right here, very clever:

I'd be lying if I claimed to not cringe when I first saw these ads.  I did, I totally cringed.  I honestly felt that the marketing department was seriously lacking in creativity when selling to 'urban communities'.  I'd ALSO be lying if I didn't reconsider my upset.  Yup, I did.  Was I mad for a good reason?  Maybe, maybe not.  I'm still on the fence about it.  But, I believe if someone sees fault in something they should be able to provide the alternative...I couldn't.

I think the song is cute...it is, admit it.  These kids got FLOW, shorty with the glasses and striped shirt made me rewind to catch it again.  I do like that they are rapping about being in school, you know, things tweens and teens SHOULD talk about.  I like the spin they put on the Yo Mama jokes ad.  Smart, no way around that.  I don't know what I would change if I could change it.

This series of ads has caused a lot of upset in the world of direct consumer feedback, i.e. Twitter/FB.  But I call to question the root of the anger.  I had to question MY OWN anger, when I did, it was founded on a readiness to be mad about anything that represents minorities in a possibly negative way...but I had to cool out.  I don't know if I can say I 'like' them, but I do accept them for what they are, great ads.

G-E-I-C-O...Did you know?

Anyone who knows me knows that I possess a smart-mouth, much to my parents dismay (at times).  This commercial uses the "Duh!" factor by reminding everyone that, "15 minutes could save you 15%."  The Martin Agency created a fun play on the very visible, thus easily remembered advertising Geico has done since the beginning.

But did you know THIS...

I was tickled.

Cars.com: No Drama...unless, you WANT it.

Buying a car, what an exciting headache.  You're excited because well, you're shopping for a car.  GO YOU!  But, which dealership?  What type? What model? Are they honest?  So. Much. Research.

Cars.com is an online tool that allows the users to compare prices, reviews, and experiences...it's also now an app.  Technology *fist pump

This hilarious spot by DDB lends you the drama that you actually missed using Cars.com, starring James Van Der Beek, because we all still love him.

Best part?  When the customer sees Van Der Beek, "Whaat?!"

HA! Excellent.

Pop Tarts, Disturbingly Delicious

I know my family has enjoyed their fair share of Pop Tarts...I really don't know many people that haven't AT LEAST once.

However, I might be the only person I know that is ALWAYS mildly disturbed by the cannibalistic nature of these commercials...even I don't see my meat before it's "time".  So, stuff like this...

Cringe-worthy.  But according to my brother, they are indeed, Crazy Good.

The Great And Powerful Buzzfeed

I love commercials and ads.  But, I love ACCURATE ads even more.  Buzzfeed, my OTHER online addiction has created a list of Accurate Corporate Logos.  Here are the best (in my opinion):

1. BP

bp (I love this one)
2. Ikea
3. Windows
Windows (ouch)
Hahaaaaaa.  For the complete list go to Buzzfeed

I LUVS this commercial!

Luvs has a real winner with the "First kid, second kid" campaign.  Take a look at this less-than-conservative ad:

The winners are:
1. Mom.  "She's already ordered, so..."
*Real laughter*
2. First kid.  The look he 'serves' the waiter with...perfection!

Sprint had me in stitches with this one!

Just plain funny.  Well done.

Oooohhh Paula...

I have MANY words for and about Ms. Deen...but I'll keep it brief.

*DISCLAIMER: These are MY opinions, alone.

Paula, oh Paula.  WHAT were you thinking about?!  The fact of the matter is, you used a discriminatory term  for the purposes of discrimination.  What's sadder than discrimination, is when it's being done with a veil of innocence.  Paula, the fact that (I think) you honestly do not see what's so wrong with your 'apology', your 'explanation' of your one black friend (y'all gotta see this), and your 'understanding' of the way things are...is what, in fact, makes YOU what you 'so affectionately' called your employees.  Smh.

Nigger:  a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, IGNORANTetc.

The 'I' in Team

Russell Athletic's commercial aired during the recent NBA Finals (what a series, whew!).

The tagline is, "Together We R."
BUT, what stood out to me was (what I think is) the clever play on the familiar saying, "there's no I in team," by stating, "I play for team."

Live Long & Imagine: Canon EOS

This spot by Grey Global Group, Inc. was [for lack of a better word] inspired.  I absolutely love it!

I think this spot does an excellent job of inspiring the creator in each of us, while selling us on THE tool that will enable.  THIS, ladies and gents, is an AD.  Well done.

This awesome ad just won a Creative Arts Emmy for Best Commercial Of The Year!  Congrats to Grey Global Group, Inc.!

I was gone last week, but now I'm back...

Look, I'll just say this...

Now, here's a post to kick off this week....

Agent Smith for GE

GE's new software is innovative.  You know how I know?  Agent Smith...yes, THE Agent Smith from the popular film franchise, The Matrix, told me so.

I totally know what's going on here LOL.  A celebrity-esque endorsement, cute.  Very cute GE.
Good for you!

Racists Love Cheerios...Too much.

Who doesn't love Cheerios?

On Tuesday, May 28th Cheerios (General Mills) released an ad that depicted a multi-ethnic family, a mom (who happens to be Caucasian), a dad (who happens to be African-American), and an adorable child (who happens to be of a mixed ethnicity)

...People. Are. PISSED.

Watch the commercial below and see how you feel.

  1. Racism is STUPID.  No matter who it comes from black, white, purple, red, green, yellow, brown...it's ALL stupid.
  2. This commercial is just plain cute.  There's no other way around it.
  3. People have the right to demand representation and recognition in the media and from companies they support.  Why wouldn't people of multiple races?  ...I'll wait.
Here's a comment posted on Reddit:
"Shoving multi-culturism down our throats when we know it fails.. awesome"

How is this commercial shoving ANYTHING down your throat, besides Cheerios?  Multi-cultured people EXIST.  Deal.

Look, let me calm down.  Share this post and your thoughts!

Funny on Friday: Sears, Run In

It is a rare occurrence when I'm caught off guard by a commercial.  This new commercial from Sears was just...perfect.  Watch below to see why:

  • Play on the overwhelmingly numerous dance shows: EXCELLENT
  • Surprise twist: PERFECT
  • The male dance knee-slide into frame: *falls out of chair
I am not in the market for an appliance, but I know whose commercial this is. A great job by McGarry Bowen, LLC.

Slavery Is Adorable

Pakistani designer Aamna Aqeel is the latest designer to receive criticism for her recent photo spread in Diva Magazine titled (and you won't believe this) "Be My Slave."  The spread shows a model in different clothes and poses with a little boy of color (race unknown) in each.  Each picture stings more than the last.

Aqeel maintains that there is no intended racism.  How that is true is beyond comprehension as the pictures help to define racism at its disgusting core.  The designer even went on to say the boy in the photos worked in a garage and wanted work.  The point of the shoot, according to Aqeel, is to place more attention on child labor.

THIS blogger has a hard time believing that.  I can hardly gather my thoughts to express the inner sadness, rage, disgust, and just how much my hands are shaking.  But hey, who am I to criticize someone's art, right?  I mean slavery is super cute.  (smh)

See yourself and leave a comment.

What, You Want A Cookie?

I truly do not understand this at all.

Oreo is the classically delicious chocolate cookie with cream center.  We know this, we love them.  I see what the intent is.  Swear.  I just don't get the connection.  The lyrics paired with the storybook animation gave me "creepy child specific ad on an adult targeted station."

Not five minutes after posting this...post this commercial comes on again.  It is still creepy.

I seriously CANNOT believe that I haven't posted about this campaign sooner!

Booking.com is an online travel service that assists with rooming and other accommodations with, "no booking fees, ever."  They have a website, apps, and awesome commercials.

So funny!

Child Abuse Message Only Kids Can See

This advertisement announcement comes from the ANAR Foundation in Spain.

"Using an outdoor lenticular we show adults an awareness message, while children see a message where we offer them our help and show them the telephone number. A message only for children." - ANAR, 2013

Check out the video below:

This concept is great, largely because of the intent behind the campaign.  ANDREW LISZEWSKI of Gizmodo asked, "how long will it be before toy companies start doing the same thing?"  I can't help but wonder that also.  This type of advertising is no doubt brilliant.  But when the market becomes over saturated, what will be the 'next big thing' in marketing, particularly to kids. And how ethical will it be?

Samsug S4: Well, the kids love it...

During my usual YouTube trolling I was hit with this funny and poignant ad for the Samsung S4.

I like this ad because it shows a comical portrayal of parents 'catching up' on the latest techie toy.  Something new and 'better' seems to be released every week and it can become hard to keep up.  The dialogue here is great and made me think back to my own conversations with my parents.  Points for being relate-ability, humor, and showing features of the phone.

A phone 4 the young and young @ <3

Cross Industry Advertising...I LOVE IT!

I have a very soft spot for the Pillsbury Dough Boy, no pun intended.  So, when I saw this commercial I was just thrilled.  The people at Geico have used their "Happier Than..." campaign and ventured into advertising that goes into multiple industries.

Think about it, the people who buy car insurance aren't just car owners, they are also family members.  Whether the head of a household or contributing member, everyone loves Pillsbury products, from cookies to croissants.  Check out the clever TV spot below:

Has it been a minute?  Yes.

Am I back at it?  Absolutely.
